Let’s start from the beginning...

Daniel and Judy Dobin started Valley Forge Fabrics in 1977 as a custom fabric house. Originally they would market velvet draperies to movie theaters. We tried to find some pictures of the products from the late 70’s at Valley Forge, but they have all been shredded by our fashion police! Think pink and 70’s.

Here is a photo of Dan and Judy in 1977 when they started Valley Forge. Again, back to velvet, even in the clothes.

Timeline

1977:
Dan and Judy opened our doors in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in May, 1977. They had a 2 year-old son (that is me) and 2 daughters, ages 4 and 6.

1978:
Valley Forge relocated to New York City. Dan and Judy raised 5 children (2 more came later) and built a business. Essentially, they never slept, so there is only one city that they could operate in. Just like you are what you eat, you are where where you live. The city that never sleeps was a perfect home base.

1980:
Dan and Judy were approached by a few hotels to sell some of the velvet products for theaters. They happily agreed, and our company dove head first into hospitality and we have never looked back. Hospitality is now 98% of what we do, and it is what we love. Hospitality is our home, our nest, our comfort zone, our sandbox. We briefly play outside of our sandbox, but we always go right back in.

The 80’s as a decade:
We went from just selling standard FR velvets and shifted to upholstery fabrics, specifically jacquards. We became the custom jacquard specialist for hotels, supplying a huge range of upholsteries to guestrooms around the United States. Hey, whatever happened to the guy Max Headroom?

1991:
We began releasing running line collections. We started by making roughly 50 books and sending them to our top customers - hotel specifiers. For pictures of some of these books, feel free to check out the COLLECTIONS section of our web site, under time warp.

1992:
Valley Forge Fabrics moved from New York City to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. No, Dan and Judy still don’t sleep!

1994:
Valley Forge Fabrics opens office in Hong Kong.

1997:
Valley Forge moved from solely providing hotels with upholstery, to offering a wide range of inherent FR sheers, draperies, and bedding fabrics.

1998:
Valley Forge worked closely with Crypton to create Woven Jacquard Crypton. This was the first woven Crypton sold in the market, and it has been an exciting journey that still continues between our companies.

2000:
Millenia year. Everyone geared up for Y2K but nothing happened. Either way, we had a great party on December 31, 1999 that led well into the morning of January 1, 2000, did you?

2001:
Valley Forge introduced faux leather into our ranges. A huge array of colors, patterns and innovative textures that never existed in the market before.

Valley Forge Fabrics Europa is opened in Italy.

2004:
Valley Forge Fabrics Australia is opened in Sydney.

TODAY:
Fast forward to 2008 and Valley Forge has grown from 2 people to over 120. We have several offices in the US, including our main office in Florida and we have offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney, Italy and our newly opened office in Dubai. We consider all of these countries part of our global home as they have been so welcoming to us. Even with these offices, we still operate in the same way we did when we were just 2 people in a room in Pennsylvania. Our main focus is and always will be innovation, excitement and imagination. Just this year we released the first ever major environmentally friendly fabric line into hospitality - FRESH. Over 1,000+ fabrics that are made from 100% recycled polyester - no blends. We also offer to recycle all fabrics in this FRESH program as a part of the reclamation process.

Tomorrow:
Stay tuned, the fun has just begun...
