FRESH®

The Thomas Schoos Collection

Valley Forge Fabrics, Inc. rolls out the bright green carpet for West Coast designer Thomas Schoos.

According to Thomas, "The FRESH® line is a collection of combining texture and color with lifestyle. Nature, when combined with these elements is what I used to create the new look and feel of FRESH® by Thomas Schoos. I think it is very important to get this product out. I was really amazed by it," said Schoos. "We have no alternative but to pay attention to the environment. Due to more research, there is a broad palette and possibilities."

At the end of the day, a table is a table. It’s what you make out of it that matters in life. You can express that table in sixty different languages…in many different design concepts…in many different points of view. But, how you use that table in your life; how you share it with others; how you appreciate that table for what it brings into your life—that is what gives that table its value and significance. That is what makes it worth having in the first place.” —Thomas Schoos

Thomas Schoos was born in Neuerberg, Germany. and studied at a nearby university in Düsseldorf. After graduation, the young Schoos apprenticed as a stone sculptor, although painting was his true passion. He transitioned into the fashion industry, where he was charged with painting backgrounds for window displays and showrooms. When these backgrounds began selling quicker than the Yves Saint Laurent and Dolce & Gabbana haute couture dresses displayed in front of them, Schoos was confident he would be able to pursue his passion as a career.

In 1994, Schoos was anxious to leave the grey skies of his native Germany and set out on a vacation to Los Angeles, a trip that would unknowingly seal his fate. Not only did he appreciate the city’s artistic diversity, but he also met his future business partner, current Thomas Schoos Design President & CEO Michael Berman, who was instrumental in getting the young artist acclimated to L.A. and established in the local arts community. Schoos began broadening his creativity and artistic vision into more than just painting.

From his breakthrough commercial restaurant project TAO Asian Bistro in Manhattan to the celebrity-packed Koi in Los Angeles, Schoos has left his mark on many of the most talked-about restaurants in the country. In 2003, Schoos and Berman opened O-Bar, not only designed by Schoos but also owned and operated by the partners. The seductive venue won widespread acclaim for both cuisine and design, earning “Best Restaurant Design” from Angeleno magazine in 2004. Schoos also recently transformed Santa Monica’s Huntley Hotel into one of L.A.’s most chic and sophisticated boutique hostelries, which was recently named by Condé Nast Traveler in its 10th Annual “Hot List,” of the World’s Top New Hotels. However, Schoos does not limit himself continuing to expand the TSD lifestyle brand with a host of unique and diverse projects. In addition to the launch of his new lifestyle brand, Schoos is also currently involved in a number of large-scale projects, including a 300-room hotel tower overlooking Waikiki Harbor in Hawaii, and several new Las Vegas nightclubs.

In addition to being featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Architectural Digest, People, Food & Wine, GQ, Los Angeles and Angeleno magazines, Vogue and InStyle, Schoos-designed projects have earned professional acclaim. The designer won “The 2005 Wave of the Future Award” from Hospitality Design magazine, while both TAO Las Vegas and the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica have been generously honored for their designs.

The collection will feature approximately 20 different hand-drawn patterns, in 20 colorways with complimentary textures. "We are always working on new products. I love creating. I always twist and bend the expected," said Schoos.
